Do Kids Die from the FLU?

WA hospitals have been flooded with worried parent this weekend as 3 children under the age of 5 have died in perth in the past few weeks from what they think is a severe form of the flu. What on earth is going on???
We are in the process of packing up our family nad will be living in Perth in less than 2 weeks and my head is so full of questions as to HOW this can happen???
The story states that "While we do not want to create unnecessary panic, it is important for parents to be aware that the disease can cause serious illness within 24 hours," Dr Van Buynder said. The children all became very sick within a day.
Two of the children had developed a secondary bacterial pneumonia and the third had not received hospital attention. (according to new.com.au)
